Philanthropy in action
Bobcat's roots in compact machinery stretch back to the late 1950s with an original concept for a lightweight, belt-driven loader. As Doosan Bobcat continues to innovate for the future, it sees immense potential in the bright, young minds of NDSU students. In 2015, the company invested $3 million to fund a scholarship endowment for students in STEM-related fields at NDSU. The gift was matched by the North Dakota Higher Education Challenge Grant Fund for an additional $1.5 million. Today, the endowment disburses roughly $186,000 annually in scholarships. "As a North Dakota-based company with so many employees with strong local roots, we value our relationship with NDSU and remain committed to nurturing the state's and region's future innovators, engineers, and technology leaders," Joel Honeyman '93, '96, vice president of global innovation at Doosan Bobcat, said. The ONE Program in the NDSU School of Pharmacy recently received the 2023 Trailblazer Award from North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Burgum at the seventh annual Recovery Reinvented conference in Minot, North Dakota. "Across North Dakota, individuals, communities, and organizations are working hard to reinvent recovery, eliminating the shame and stigma of addiction, and treating it like the disease it is," Gov. Burgum said. The ONE Program helps address opioid misuse and overdose. Enrolled pharmacists and pharmacies receive training on how to screen patients for risk of misuse; educate patients on opioid harm reduction; provide naloxone; and learn how to counsel and refer patients to resources available in the community. Since the ONE Program began in 2018, trained pharmacists have provided screenings to help more than 25,000 patients. Learn more about the ONE Program on the NDSU News webpage. |
