Menard family makes multi-million-dollar gift to NDSU

The gift to the Challey Institute establishes directorship and national speaker series

Major thought leader Arthur C. Brooks will help launch the Menard Family Distinguished Speakers Series during a virtual event on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020. The Menard Family Distinguished Speaker Series is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Menard family, who made a $5.5 million gift to the Challey Institute at NDSU. The family's investment will support a directorship, several new professorships, visiting scholars programs, and graduate and undergraduate fellowships that will allow NDSU students to gain an appreciation for the larger global environment within which business and innovation occur.

"Students, faculty, and the community will be able to engage and interact with world-class experts in these areas, generating additional ideas, thought, and research that will further our mission," John Bitzan, Menard Family Director of the Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth, said.

The Menard family's gift, in combination with gifts from other donors to the Challey Institute, will enable faculty and students to tackle big questions while exploring ways to improve the human condition and create economic opportunity.

Read the family's open letter to the NDSU community and find out more about the gift on the NDSU Foundation's website.

Team Makers make an impact

When Trey Lance was making his college decision, everything about Fargo — from the university to the people and community support — drew him to NDSU. He says fans care about student-athletes on and off the field, which makes this community special. Scholarships also played an important role in his decision to become a Bison. Financial support from Team Makers and named athletic scholarships lessen financial burdens for student-athletes. These scholarships allow them to perform at their best in the classroom and on the field.

"Receiving a scholarship from North Dakota State is a lifelong blessing. Not only does it make a difference for me and my family financially, but it also allows me to form lifelong relationships with current and former NDSU student-athletes. The financial support from Team Makers also allowed me to realize how special the Fargo community is, as well as create long-lasting relationships with community members that go so much deeper than athletics."
- Trey Lance, Team Makers and named scholarship recipient, Strategic Communications, class of 2022
